Bink keybed

Published by Priscilla Haring-Kuipers on

We have been working on making a fabulous, mechanically sturdy and smart keybed for years. Stijn wanted an interaction between keys and synthesized sound that isnt available. Playability that belongs with a top-notch instrument. I wanted this to be as good as possible, as durable as possible and as green as possible. Our friend and mechanical engineer Marcel added the necessary material and mechanical knowledge as well as an expertise in setting up automated production and building the machines necessary. Eventually the whole Bink enterprise will be his so we can focus on what this fantabulous keybed is for; the BigFish synthesizer.

Three years of designing and experimenting. Stacks of technical drawings, investigations in material, look and feel, form factor, sensing and compute, math and more math. Visiting chemical (plastic) and machining fairs and finding companies we want to work with. Visiting factories and 3d printing or milling parts, adjusting and doing it again.

Now all the designs are set. We have found our materials – recycled ABS and bio-feed-stock technical plastic- and the people. Moulds are being made. This is the moment that all of this work will become reality. In the next two months machines will arrive (our spring making machine is already underway) that make up our little factory line. All the parts will arrive and assembly will begin. We aim to have devkits in dec/jan and start proper production the spring of 2026. Exciting times.

If you are interested in getting a Bink to build your synthesizer around please check out https://bink.amsterdam/ and get on our mailing list. Please note that Bink is a component meant for synthesizer manufacturers & NOT a finished consumer product.
