Happy birthday RP2350

The 8th of the 8th is Raspberry Pi release day! Bringing into the world the Pico 2 which has onboard their new RP2350 family of chips. Check out the write-up by Eben Upton

We are especially happy because this means we can move forward with our Bopp & Steve space module! Which has been waiting on the official release of this RP2350 chip family. We have been beta-testing these chips and really liked it for our space module so we patiently and quietly waited for its release. All very hush-hush. BUT NOT ANYMORE!

These RP2350s are a fine thing. The extra memory and memory interface are very welcome as well as the floating point unit – compared to the RP240 that we use in our NextTuesday, Wobbler2, White Rabbit and Brinta. The new RP2350 chip is very good value for money and we expect the usual Raspberry Pi treatment of great documentation and long-term support. We love working with a company that has such an educational footprint.

We are doing a tiny update of the design according to the latest silicon revision and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our RP2350 chips so we can board them and send them to our assembly house. Next month we expect to have the assembled boards and other parts back in the house so we can add potentiometers, LEDs, buttons and our beautiful frontplates and calibrate and test everything. Meanwhile we will finalize the algorithms and we fully expect Bopp & Steve to fly out the door this fall.

So to celebrate today we also open up our official waiting list. Want to reserve your own deconstructed reverb space module? Send an e-mail with the subject ‘Yes Bopp & Steve’ to priscilla@thisisnotrocketscience.nl
